Biography 

​

Linda Arts (1971-NL) grew up in the river area of the Netherlands but has lived and worked in the south of the country for many years now. Arts shows her art internationally. She had, amongst others, exhibitions at De Pont Museum (NL), Museum van Bommel van Dam, (NL), Dum umeni/ The House of Art (CZ), SNO Contemporary Art Projects, Sydney (AUS), Museum De Lakenhal (NL) and Museum Ludwig Forum fur Actuele Kunst (DE). She also carries out commissions for governments, (art) institutions and private collectors.

 

Arts works primarily in black and white, deliberately limiting herself to a small number of motifs. Within this abstract visual language, she finds her own space. She creates paintings, prints, and large site-specific installations. Her work transforms visible reality into an abstract world of lines, light, and shadow, evoking optical illusions and mental spaces.

Each piece is carefully conceived and executed. From a distance, shapes seem to move or recede behind the wall; up close, the artist’s hand becomes visible. Apparent perfection gives way to focus, intuition, and quiet attention. Subtle imperfections lend the work a personal touch.

 

As Hanneke de Man (De Pont Museum) notes, the power of Arts’ work lies in its detail. Her prints and murals likewise show how much meaning can reside in subtlety.

 

Publicist Alex de Vries describes her work as optical illusion that challenges the viewer: it’s not just about what you see, but what you think you see — prompting you to look more closely and think more deeply. That, he says, is what painting is about.
